I. INTRODUCTION
TheBrookeldDV-IIViscometerserieshasbeentheleadingindustrialviscometersinceit
wasrstintroducedin1985.BrookeldhascontinuedtodevelopandimprovetheDV-IIto
providethebestvalueinthemarketforbothqualitycontrolandresearchcustomers.The
BrookeldDV2TViscometercontinuesinthistraditionofinnovation,qualityandvalue.The
incorporationofafullcolorgraphicaltouchscreendisplayhasallowedforanewandimproved
userinterfacewhichpreservesthesinglespeeddatacollectionmethodswhilemakingallof
theadvancedfeaturesoftheDV2Treadilyavailable.
TheBrookeldDV2TViscometermeasuresuidviscosityatgivenshearrates.Viscosityis
ameasureofauid’sresistancetoow.Youwillndadetaileddescriptionofthescienceof
viscosityintheBrookeldpublication“More Solutions to Sticky Problems”,acopyofwhich
wasincludedwithyourDV2T.
ThismanualcoverstheDV2TViscometerandtheDV2TExtraViscometer.TheDV2TExtrais
aspecialpackagethatincludesseveraloptionalfeaturestomaximizetheutilityoftheDV2T.
TheDV2TExtraincludes:BallBearingSuspension(notincludedinLVversions),EZ-Lock
spindleconnection,ModelQLabStand,andRheocalcTSoftware.Thesedifferencesare
detailedintheComponentssectionofthemanual.Allreferencestotheviscometerinthis
manualwillbemadeasDV2T.AlloftheoptionalfeaturesoftheDV2TExtramaybeadded
individuallytotheDV2TViscometer.
• TheDV2Toffersexceptionalversatilityinmodesofcontrol,allowingchoiceoftraditional
standalone operation and automatic operation through programs downloaded from
thePCorwithcompletecontrolbyPCusingBrookeldRheocalcTSoftware.
• TheDV2TcanbeusedasatraditionalBrookeldviscometerforcollectionofsingle
speedviscositydatathroughtheeasytousetouchscreen;justselectthespindleand

aspectsofthetestanddatacollectionwithouttheneedfortheoperatortomonitor

and control.
TheprincipalofoperationoftheDV2Tistodriveaspindle(whichisimmersedinthetestuid)
throughacalibratedspring.Theviscousdragoftheuidagainstthespindleismeasuredbythe
springdeection.Springdeectionismeasuredwitharotarytransducer.Themeasurement
rangeofaDV2T(incentipoiseormilliPascal•seconds)isdeterminedbytherotationalspeed
ofthespindle,thesizeandshapeofthespindle,thecontainerthespindleisrotatingin,and
thefullscaletorqueofthecalibratedspring.
